Er04 "No Plasma" Only When Wire Welding
has anyone run into an er04 no plasma detected error specifically when wire welding the machine works normally when fusion welding with the standard torch setup as soon as i install the whip on the extension tube for wire welding i start getting er04 i can remove the whip and go right back to fusion welding without any issues the manual says er04 means the plasma detection feature isn t detecting plasma during welding but doesn t give much information on what would cause it has anyone experienced this with the wire welding setup anything specific with the whip extension tube alignment or setup that i should be checking i ve tried replacing the following already without any luck extension tube collet bayonet cover lens focus lens new whip

update i replaced the welding head with a new calibrated welding head and i m still getting the same er04 when attempting to wire weld no error when autogenously welding

first check your weld settings in the ethernet page ensure that the material setting is correct use steel for all non reflective materials stainless steel carbon steel nickel base alloys etc and aluminum for all reflective materials primarily aluminum and copper if you are still getting the issue after checking the material setting see below this may be a calibration issue within the machine itself sometimes we have seen similar issues with brand new machines from ipg there are a few back end settings in the firmware that can only be adjusted by an ipg technician the best course of action to correct this issue is to reach out to ipg s service team you can email them at lightweld ipgphotonics com or call their service line directly during business hours at 508 506 2877 if you choose to email them please cc us info handheldlaserinstitute com so we can help get it prioritized in ipg s queue
